StoryPages vs GoHighLevel

We resold GHL for years. It is powerful, and most owners still cannot operate it alone.

Where we are coming from

James Cook Media was a substantial GoHighLevel reseller. We put hundreds of clients on it, built their funnels, configured their automations, and answered their support calls.

That is why we are not going to tell you GHL is bad software. It is capable, mature, and it earned its market position. Our disagreement is about who it is designed for.

The pattern we could not unsee: the software was never the bottleneck. The bottleneck was that the person whose name was on the business could not run it without us.

We would rather you read this and choose correctly than sign up, hit the gap, and churn.

The honest matrix

Note the rows we lose. A table where the competitor does nothing is marketing, not analysis.

Based on our years reselling GoHighLevel and running both products, as of July 2026. GHL ships quickly — verify any single capability against current docs before deciding on it.

Where the difference actually shows up

01

Onboarding: a conversation against a configuration project

Ask anyone who has onboarded onto GoHighLevel what week one felt like. Sub-accounts, snapshots, triggers, workflows, pipelines, custom values. Every one of those concepts is legitimate — together they are a platform you administer.

StoryPages starts by asking what your business is. You type a paragraph, approve a style, a sitemap, and a set of wireframes, and the site is live. There is no second system to learn afterwards, because editing is another sentence.

This sounds cosmetic. It decides whether your website still reflects your business in month six.

02

Who sits in the chair

This is the real question, and it is not about features. Look honestly at who will log in most weeks.

If it is an agency or an operator you employ, GoHighLevel is viable and its depth is an advantage. If it is you, and you are not technical, every hour of configuration is an hour taken from the work you are actually good at.

We spent years being that agency. We are describing our own invoices.

03

AI visibility: the axis that barely existed five years ago

Your buyers increasingly ask ChatGPT for a recommendation, or read an AI Overview and never scroll. Those systems can only surface you if your site is machine-legible: real structured data, clean semantic markup, fast delivery, and an llms.txt file describing what your site is.

On GoHighLevel that work is yours, or your agency's. On StoryPages it is a default, because we think a site without it will soon look the way a site without a mobile layout looked in 2014.

04

What the setup actually costs

The sticker comparison is $29 against $97, and that understates the difference in both directions.

GHL's $97 buys a genuinely larger feature surface. But in every engagement we ran, the real cost included an agency retainer, a contractor or VA, or a meaningful number of the owner's own hours — indefinitely.

StoryPages plans differ by sites, pages per site, and CRM contacts, so a solo consultant and a small agency pay differently. Neither pays a specialist to keep it running.

What you get instead

This is the whole starting interface.

No sub-accounts, no template gallery, no breakpoints. You describe the business; you approve a plan.

Where GoHighLevel is genuinely better

If two or more of these matter to you, choose GoHighLevel. We mean it.

Phone, SMS, and the dialer

GHL's communications stack is real and we have no equivalent. If your business runs on outbound calling and SMS follow-up, that alone is a reason to choose GHL.

White-label reselling

GHL is built so an agency can resell it as their own SaaS. If that is your business model, we are not currently the tool.

The snapshot ecosystem

Years of third-party snapshots mean you can often import an entire vertical's setup in one action.

Maturity in the long tail

A very large user base has hardened edge cases we have not encountered yet.

Decide in a minute

Which one is actually for you

Choose GoHighLevel if…

  • You need outbound phone and SMS as a core workflow
  • You resell a white-labelled platform as your own product
  • An agency or dedicated operator will run the account, not you
  • You depend on the third-party snapshot marketplace

Choose StoryPages if…

  • The business owner is the person logging in
  • You want a website live today, not a build project
  • You want AI assistants to find and recommend you by default
  • You would rather pay $29 than $97 plus an operator

StoryPages vs GoHighLevel: common questions

Is StoryPages a GoHighLevel white-label?
No. StoryPages was built from scratch by James Cook Media. Our years as a GHL reseller taught us where it frustrated clients, but no GHL code or infrastructure is involved.
Can StoryPages fully replace GoHighLevel?
For solo operators and small teams needing a website, CRM, email, and funnels, yes. If you depend on GHL phone/SMS, white-label reselling, or the snapshot marketplace, it cannot.
How do I migrate from GoHighLevel?
Rebuild the site in StoryPages, then export contacts from GHL as CSV and import them into the StoryPages CRM. Funnels and sequences need rebuilding because the underlying models differ.
Which is cheaper?
StoryPages starts at $29/month against GHL's $97 entry plan. The larger difference for most buyers is what they spend on top in agency or operator time.
Does GoHighLevel do AI visibility?
Not by default. Structured data, llms.txt, and semantic markup are left to you or your agency. Every StoryPages site ships them automatically.
Do you think GoHighLevel is bad software?
No. It is powerful, mature software that we sold profitably for years. For a certain kind of agency it is still the right answer.

The fastest way to decide is to build the thing.
